Nelly Korda Birthday – July 28th, 1998

Today is the birthday of Nelly Korda, born in 1998 here in Bradenton, Florida.

She made the cut at the 2013 US Women’s Open at Sebonack Golf Club in Southhampton a month shy of her 15th birthday.  Korda had a fine Amateur career and turned pro in 2016, playing and winning on the Symetra tour and then in 2018, winning on the LPGA Tour.

She and her sister Jessica are one of only three sisters to have won on the LPGA Tour, the others are Moriya and Ariya Jutanugarn and the Sorenstam sisters, Annika and Charlotta.

The Korda family has their own Slam of sorts; both Jessica and Nelly have won the Australian Open, their father, Peter, won the Australian Open tennis Major in 1998, and little brother Sebastian won the Australian Open Junior title in 2018.

Nelly has won 7 times on the LPGA Tour, including her first Major, the 2021 LPGA Championship.  She also won the Gold medal at the 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo, only the second American to win gold in golf.  The first was Margaret Abbott in the 1900 summer games in Paris.

Mom Regina competed in the 1988 Games in Seoul for the Czecholslavakian Tennis team.

Impressive.  I am a big fan and cheer for Nelly at every tournament.

Happy Birthday, Nelly.

GolfToons

GolfToons are Golf Cartoons. Check out our collection of original golf illustrations presented as cartoons and thoughts about the game of golf.  We try to offer a wry perspective that looks at every facet of this strange game of ours. The overall idea is a scheme between two golf buddies, Michael Duranko and Marty Glass. If this side-hustle makes any money, they‘re gonna blow it on a golf trip. Enjoy!
