Eddie Loos Birthday – July 31st, 1893

Today is the birthday of Eddie Loos, born Edward Wallace Neal Loos in 1893 in NYC,  He started as a caddy at Van Courtlandt Park GC in the Bronx.

He was a club pro at many clubs throughout his career while playing in early tour events and exhibitions.  He won 3 times on the PGA Tour and was known as two-putt Eddie, because he rarely 3-putted.

At the 1931 LA Open, he was in the lead when he teed off at the 71st hole of the competition.  From the rough he hit his approach to less than 3 inches from the cup.  But when he went to tap it in, he saw Walter Hagen stenciled on the ball.  He was given a 2 stroke penalty for hitting the wrong ball, his playing partner.  And lost the tournament to Ed Dudley.  Ouch!

GolfToons are Golf Cartoons. Check out our collection of original golf illustrations presented as cartoons and thoughts about the game of golf.  We try to offer a wry perspective that looks at every facet of this strange game of ours. The overall idea is a scheme between two golf buddies, Michael Duranko and Marty Glass. If this side-hustle makes any money, they‘re gonna blow it on a golf trip. Enjoy!
